The language barrier is one of the challenges I faced not being able to  communicate with the people around me since they did not understand Spanish. This caused me to isolate my self from others when I couldn't be understood through Spanish or even English not knowing how how to speak it fluently. As well coming here I faced a culture shock. Making it bit harder to make connections and it was hard to get over that barrier. Transportation was a significant barrier not being able to go to places I need to since not having a car or not even knowing how to use the public transportation from being the language barrier. This caused me to miss opportunities, being able to get a degree/license in cosmetologist or even learn English. Importantly just to be able to progress and make change from my past. Additionally, no being able to know when or where to get help at the beginning makes you waste a lot of time and valuable opportunities. I started to realize that there is many resources and help in the community. They would have help achieve my goals if I new about them sooner. Many Immigrants like me pas learning bit of the language, bit of the United States system  and resources offered but by the time its late. I've been here for about 20 years in USA. Even though I still ignorant in various aspects. I still believe in needing to know more to give that to my kids and support them through their journey.

When I arrived to the United States, I believed that I would be able to accomplish my dreams easily but I encounteered with several difficulties. The first difficulty I encounteered was what job opportunities were available for me in such a huge country. I believed applying to an agency was the only way to find a job opportunity. I worked in cleaning homes and taking care of children but I received a very low salary and worked long enduring hours both day and night. Another difficulty was not having sufficient money to rent a home and having to live in a garage. After some time I accepted the opportunity of sleeping in one of the house's I cleaned. Although I had a place to sleep, I only would receive food once a day which caused me to feel frustrated every day the feeling of hunger. I never imagined that I would have to live through these difficult circumstances in the U.S. Another difficulty was missing my family and my country due to the difficulties I had to face. These adversities did not make me give up rather I continued to strive and looked for job opportunities that would offer me a better salary in which I could afford to make payments to rent a house. And I found a job at a foundry which helped me to be able to pay rent and purchase food. Another difficulty was not having transportation. I had to start walking at 5am to get my work on time. I felt fear that something could happen to me from walking in the street to my job. Another difficulty I faced was having to wait to receive my green card for almost 20 years which caused fear because I thought I would be taken back to my country of origin. I persevered and decided to continue living in the U.S. a place of opportunities. I want for immigrants to persevere for the opportunities in the U.S. even if they encounteer difficulties.

Coming to the United States at such a young age was one of the most difficult challenges I'd ever encountered; it was like entering an unfamiliar world. I needed to learn a new language and how to solve the challenges I faced. Finding a job was extremely difficult given that I didn't speak English and wasn't able to find help. I started working at McDonald's with low salary and had to deal with discrimination. At that time my husband worked in a factory where he also was paid low salery. Having three kids at this time was tough on us and we only had eachother to count on. There was no resources at this time so we had to go out and look for help. Eventually our neighbors that had a couple of years in the United States were generous enough to help us and give us that extra support we needed.
